Miami International Airport welcomed a record nearly 56 million passengers in 2024. In 2025, it served another 55.3 million travelers and handled nearly 3.5 million tons of freight—its sixth consecutive cargo record. MIA is now the busiest U.S. airport for freight, the third busiest worldwide for freight, and the second busiest U.S. airport for international passengers.
The impact reaches far beyond the terminals. A recent study estimates MIA’s statewide economic impact at a record $212 billion in business revenue, with airport-related activity supporting 945,682 jobs.
Now, MIA is investing $14 billion in modernization and expansion, including a new Concourse K, a redeveloped Central Terminal, upgraded gates and improvements throughout the passenger journey. The airport is preparing for more than 77 million travelers and four million tons of freight by 2040.
For Miami, these numbers tell a bigger story: stronger global connections, more capacity for trade and tourism, and infrastructure being built for the city’s next chapter.
