Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon, just announced his decision on his Instagram page to relocate to Miami. After 30 years, he is leaving Seattle, home base for Amazon and returning to the Magic City.
"My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 — GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami".
Accompanied by a throwback video showcasing his younger and poorer self in the original Amazon headquarters based out of his garage, Bezos expressed his desire to be closer to his parents, Jackie and Mike Bezos, who currently reside in Coral Gables. Just last year his parents purchased two luxury homes in Coral Gables for $78M.
Another factor influencing Bezos' decision is his space exploration company, Blue Origin. As the company expands its operations in Cape Canaveral on the Florida coast, Bezos wants to be in closer proximity to it.
The signs of Bezos' relocation were apparent earlier this year when he purchased a luxurious estate for $68M on highly exclusive Indian Creek, nicknamed Billionaire Bunker. On October, he bought the adjacent mansion which sits on 2 acres for $79M. He now owns 4.6 contiguous lots. With this, Indian Creek can now be called Bezos Bunker.
